When you want to stop smoking rather then encourage you to try alternative methods which are 5-20 times more effective then patches, champix or zyban (95-100% instead of 5-22%) and 144-288 times faster (1-2h as apposed to 12-24 weeks) with zero side effects, they instead send you to the 'utterly useless' (our clients words) NHS stop smoking clinics instead. The NHS stop smoking clinics cost the taxpayer £275 per person referred to them and with an abysmal success rate of 5-22% ends up costing us £1,250-£5,500 for every person who successfully quits smoking with them. Also you only have to stop smoking for two weeks out of four to count as a resounding success. If you start smoking and enrol on the programme again then you are counted twice. So statistically the NHS stop smoking campaign is a runaway success, but real life figures tell a completely different story. Some of our clients have failed up to six times with the NHS before they come to see us. Some have put on a huge amount of weight and reverted back to smoking.
We see loads of nurses, doctors, health managers, dentists and other health professionals who quit smoking with us. They tell us that the government endorsed stop smoking system is a joke and is directly responsible for making people think it’s too difficult to quit smoking. However, like lemmings people keep going to the NHS stop smoking clinics even though their friends or family have failed on the programme. But when was there a fair system for the alternative and complimentary health professionals? We survive not because of the health profession but in spite of them. If the health profession had its way then they would dig a great big pit in the middle of the country and bury all of the alternative and complimentary therapists in it. There are about a dozen health professionals lead by Prof Baum who would love to do just that right now!
People who were brave enough to rock the boat have either been chased out of their countries or lost their liberties. Instead of embracing these bold new approaches our answer is to put them behind bars.
Now back to the pathetic success rate of the governments smoking cessation system. Every year most PCTs have difficulty meeting the government quota for the number of smokers who have quit smoking. Their answer is very simple. They entice a lot of doctors and chemists with £20 notes to count those people who have stopped for one week out of four as a success in order to qualify for government handouts. Because chemists are allowed to prescribe stop smoking aids themselves a few have been caught with their hands in the till and are under investigation by Scotland Yard for making up fictitious names of people who have quit smoking with them. When the gravy train gets going it takes on its own unstoppable momentum doesn’t it?
